INTEL: China targets 2030 for national blockchain network completion

China has established a 2030 target to largely complete its national blockchain network under a government plan aimed at expanding digital infrastructure and integrating new technologies into the country’s economy.

The target was disclosed on October 23, 2026, in the National Informatization 15th Five-Year Plan issued by China’s Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission.

The document establishes nationwide blockchain infrastructure as part of China’s broader technology development priorities through 2030.

China establishes 2030 blockchain infrastructure target

The government aims to substantially complete its national blockchain network by 2030, alongside the development of advanced communications infrastructure and a nationwide digital economy.

The plan also calls for the completion of next-generation communications networks, continued development of integrated digital infrastructure and the potential introduction of commercial 6G services when conditions permit.

The blockchain initiative forms part of a broader strategy to support the integration of digital technologies into China’s traditional industries.

Earlier government policies have identified blockchain applications in supply chain management, manufacturing, agricultural product tracking, trade documentation and financial services.

These applications are intended to improve information sharing, transaction verification and the reliability of records across industries.

National blockchain project receives a clearer deadline

China previously called for the construction of a national blockchain network in policy guidelines published on October 9.

Those guidelines outlined the government’s intention to develop blockchain infrastructure but did not specify a completion date.

The latest national informatization plan provides a more concrete target, calling for the network to be largely completed by 2030.

However, the announcement does not establish a specific launch date, operating structure, investment budget or detailed technical architecture.

China’s blockchain infrastructure strategy remains distinct from permitting unrestricted cryptocurrency trading, which continues to face significant restrictions in the country.

The 2030 target establishes blockchain as a long-term component of China’s national digital infrastructure rather than a standalone cryptocurrency initiative.
